Sri Lankan Cooking Class
/Looking for a unique experience as an in-house activity during your stay at Dido’s Place? Why not try a Sri Lankan Cooking Class with renowned local Private Chef and Caterer, Suzanne Herft. Her classes are a lot of fun, they are interactive and the best thing of all is that you get to enjoy the beautiful Sri Lankan feast you have created at the end of the 2 hour class.
Suzanne’s Sri Lankan food, if you haven’t heard already, is the latest and greatest buzz in the Hawkesbury. She is even featuring in the upcoming issue of the West of the River Magazine. Being big foodies ourselves, we just had to see what all of the fuss was about, so we grabbed a few friends during our stay at Dido’s Place and booked in our very first Sri Lankan Cooking Class.
Our chosen menu consisted of Sri Lankan Yellow Rice (Kaha Bath), Chicken Curry, Potato in Kiri Hodhi (Milk Gravy) and Mallung (Cooked Shredded Kale & Coconut). Suzanne took us on an incredible spice journey, introducing us to an array of spices and herbs, their beautiful aromas and vibrant colours. She also passed on cooking tips which had been handed down to her from generation to generation.
The kitchen was filled with laughter and a very lively interest in Sri Lankan food, culture and history as we got stuck into cooking our feast. It was quite the experience. Having never cooked Sri Lankan food previously, I now find myself cooking it at least once a week since undertaking the class. The class taught me a lot about unfamiliar ingredients, how to source them, how to correctly cook them and it has now given me the confidence to cook Sri Lankan cuisine at home on a regular basis.
I’d highly recommend Suzanne’s Sri Lankan Cooking Classes at Dido’s Place for groups of 6-8 people. The class is perfect for group getaways, retreats and team building weekends away. The open planned and fully equipped kitchen at Dido’s Place makes it the ideal place to host your very own private cooking class. So why not add a little spice to your weekend away and book a class during your next stay at Dido’s Place.
